Q.What are post-charting vacant berths?
When railway charts are prepared (by 8:00 PM on the previous day for morning departures, or 8–10 hours before departure for other trains), berths from unutilized VIP/emergency quotas, cancellations, or vacant legs become available for general booking until the final chart is made 30 minutes before departure. These are known as Current Booking seats.
Q.Do current booking tickets cost extra?
No! Unlike Tatkal tickets which carry a steep premium, Current Booking tickets are sold at normal base reservation fares, often with a 10% discount on select Rajdhani/Shatabdi routes.
